Merseyside Historic Environment Record (HER) Data Search
The Historic Environment Record (HER) is the primary source of information on the historic environment across Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral.
HER searches can support planning applications, archaeological assessments, heritage statements, research projects and site investigations.
This service is separate from Pre-Application Advice and Discretionary Advice services and is charged independently.
How the Service Works
- Contact the HER team with your enquiry.
- MEAS confirms the scope of the request and provides a quotation.
- The requester provides written acceptance and invoicing details.
- The HER search is completed and issued to the requester.
- An invoice is issued with payment due within 14 working days.

Bespoke Searches and Service Level Agreements
Larger, more complex, strategic or linear infrastructure projects may require bespoke searches that fall outside the scope of the standard HER products.
Charges for bespoke searches are agreed on a case-by-case basis and will depend on factors such as search area, complexity, urgency and level of analysis required.
Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are also available for annual or multi-year access arrangements.

Non-Commercial Users
Reduced charges may be available for non-commercial users, including students, academic researchers, local history groups, community organisations and charitable heritage bodies.
Requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis and supporting information may be required. As a guide, charges are typically around 50% of commercial rates.
A minimum fee of £90.00 normally applies where staff time is required.
Payment Information
Payment is normally required within 14 working days of invoice. Requesters may be asked to provide a Purchase Order Number or other invoicing reference before work begins.
